Vasily Vasilievich was not only an outstanding artist, but also a theorist. He believed that art should break the shackles imposed by the physical form of objects and phenomena, and convey the very essence of ideas to the viewer. According to his classification, paintings are divided into compositions, improvisations and impressions. The latter refers to this work and means the image of the author’s inner experiences from certain things or events. This canvas reflects emotions experienced from a magnificent concert of the Austrian-American composer Arnold Schönberg, with whom they later became friends on the basis of a common understanding of the basics of musical and pictorial images.
An ordinary person, when viewing such expressionistic abstractions, should turn off the rational and feel with his soul, special eyesight, trying to comprehend all the nuances with no reason. However, in relation to this creation of the master, one can understand quite a lot about what is written, having looked more closely. Because a big black something in its shape is very similar to a piano. Clinging to this association, it becomes logical to assume that in the lower left corner the public is depicted, and in the upper, respectively, the rest of the orchestra, distinguished by coal lines similar to bows. The energy of movement is also visible to the naked eye - strokes, large and small spots, diagonally directed to the right corner.
Of particular importance is color. Yellow is very impudent and dynamic, it alarms, touches the contemplator strongly, blue, darkens, causes growing anguish, red gives power and aggressive strength, black symbolizes a fading abyss and something completely limp.
